Due to all ordinary-ferry sailings of Central-Mui Wo ferry route will be deployed by full-air-conditioned vessels starting from 3 August 2025,  and the increasing number of passengers traveling with pets (including birds) of all ferry routes, an update to the guidelines for passengers traveling with pets (including birds) of all ferry routes will be implemented starting from 3 August 2025:

  1. The types of vessels that allow pets (including birds) on board will be expanded from the current “Xin Ming Zhu” Series fast ferries (which only non-bird pets are allowed) and ordinary class of ordinary ferries (which pets (including birds) are allowed) to all types of ferries except deluxe class of ordinary ferries. Pets (including birds) will remain be prohibited in the deluxe class of ordinary ferries (only applicable for Central – Cheung Chau ferry route).
  2. Pets (including birds) (except guide dogs accompanying blind people) must either be put in pet cages/ pet bags/ pet strollers/ bird cages, or on a leash and being muzzled at piers and inside the ferry cabin (including ordinary class of ordinary ferries and fast ferries (the "First Ferry" Series and the "Xin Ming Zhu" Series)), must remain with the pet owner at all times and shall not occupy any seat.
  3. Due to the lack of a dedicated pet area in the cabin of the "First Ferry" Series fast ferry, passengers with pets (including birds) are only allowed in the first two rows of seats at the bow of the lower deck of "First Ferry" Series fast ferry.
  4. Live poultry (e.g. chickens, ducks and geese) and raptors (e.g. hawks) will remain be prohibited onboard.

Furthermore, to allow passengers sufficient time to become aware of and adapt to these new guidelines through the notices at the Ferry Piers, Website, Mobile App, or the Customer Service Hotline, there will be a 1-month adaptation period following the introduction of the new guidelines. Verbal reminders will be primarily used for non-compliance during this period. Starting from 3 September 2025, the new guidelines will be officially enforced. At that time, pier and onboard staff will have the right to refuse boarding to passengers who travel with pets (including birds) and fail to comply with the new guidelines.
