Starting from 3 August 2025, there are updates of guidelines of carriage of pets of Sun Ferry’s ferry routes, with 1-month adaption period and take effect on 3 September 2025.

According to Section 17 “Restriction on animals on ferry vessels” of Chapter 104A [FERRY SERVICES REGULATIONS], No person shall take a dog, bird or other animal in or onto a ferry vessel in use on a licensed service or pier or other place reserved for embarkation of passengers using a licensed service unless-

(a) the dog, bird or other animal is suitably restrained or caged; and

(b) the person desiring to take the dog, bird or other animal on board the ferry vessel has first obtained the approval of a member of the staff of the licensee. Any person who contravenes the regulation commits an offence and is liable to a fine of HK$2,000.

  1. Please do not bring any live poultry (e.g. chickens, ducks and geese) and raptors (e.g. hawks) onboard.
  2. No pet (including birds, e.g. parrots) is allowed on board the deluxe class of ordinary ferries (except guide dogs accompanying blind people)(Only applicable for Central Cheung Chau route).
  3. Before boarding, passengers shall register for and pay fare for their pets (including birds) through the ticket office or any designated locations at the pier (except guide dogs accompanying blind people).
  4. According to Section 23 “Part II animals (Dogs) to be kept under control” of Chapter 421 [Rabies Ordinance], (1) unless it is on a leash or is otherwise under control, no Part II animal (Dogs) shall be in — (a) a public place; or (b) any place from which it may reasonably be expected to wander into a public place if it is not on a leash or otherwise under control. (2) Where a Part II animal (Dog) is found in any place in contravention of subsection (1) the keeper of the animal and any person who caused, suffered or permitted the animal to be in that place shall each be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of $10,000. If dogs are not properly restrained when brought onboard, boarding will not be allowed.
  5. Pets (including birds) (except guide dogs accompanying blind people) must either be put in pet cages/ pet bags/ pet strollers/ bird cages, or on a leash and being muzzled at piers, must remain with the pet owner at all times and shall not occupy any seats. Passengers who bring pets (including birds) on board fast ferry must try their best to keep their pets (including birds) within the designated areas onboard.
  6. Pets (including birds) (except guide dogs accompanying blind people) must either be put in pet cages/ pet bags/ pet strollers/ bird cages, or on a leash and being muzzled at piers, must remain with the pet owner at all times and shall not occupy any seats. Passengers who bring pets (including birds) on board fast ferry must try their best to keep their pets (including birds) within the designated areas onboard
  7. Pet is subject to a charge separately which varies according to the ferry routes based on the existing mechanism:
    Ferry Route Standard Charge (per pet)
    Central – Cheung Chau HK$23.40
    Central – Mui Wo HK$22.30
    Inter-islands HK$17.20

The above charges are for reference only, and the actual charges are based on the on-site handling.

Pets (including birds) (except guide dogs accompanying blind people) must either be put in pet cages/ pet bags/ pet strollers/ bird cages, or on a leash and being muzzled at piers, must remain with the pet owner at all times and shall not occupy any seats.
  3. In order to avoid pets (including birds) causing nuisance and fear to other passengers, and keep a quiet cabin, passengers bringing pets (including birds) on board must keep the pets (including birds) under control. Our company reserves the right to refuse any carriage of pets (including birds) that caused disturbance, nuisance or fear to the passengers. The decisions of our company shall be final and conclusive.

  5. Pet is subject to a charge according to the ferry routes based on the existing mechanism:
    Ferry Route Standard Charge (per pet)
    North Point – Hung Hom HK$11.00
    North Point – Kowloon City HK$11.00
