Tung Chung (Yat Tung)

The pleasant city view along the Tung O Ancient Trail.

Setting off from Tung Chung MTR station, take the path along the Ngong Ping 360 station and step up to the pavilion where you can overlook the Hong Kong International Airport. Walk down to Tung Chung Road, turn right and head to the Tung Chung Battery and Tong Dynasty Lime Kiln. With reference to historical documents, the Tung Chung Battery is undoubtedly one of two batteries built at Rocky Lion Hill in 1817. After departing from the Battery, you will pass by the Ma Wan Chung village and Yat Tung Estate and then cross the bridge to reach the Tung Chung Fort, one of the historical monuments listed in 1979. The fort, with six intact old cannons, was built in 1832 with the enclosures made of granite. Keep walking to Hau Wong Temple that features a bell cast, a big whalebone and a stone set symbolising the harmony between the East and West of Tung Chung.
