Falling on the 13th day of the second month on the lunar calendar, the Hung Shing Festival marks the birthday of Hung Shing Tai Wong, a Panyu governor during the Tang dynasty. Originally named Hung Hei, he was deified as the god of the sea by many merchants and fishermen for his support and assistance, building temples dedicated to this beloved governor.
