Many of the early settlers of Cheung Chau were fishermen who believed in the gods of the sea and built many temples including the Pak Tai Temple, the largest temple in Cheung Chau located on Pak She Street. Falling on the third day of the third month on the lunar calendar, Pak Tai Festival attracts a lot of worshippers with Chinese opera troupes performing plays for the gods.
